2025 Gold Quarter Sovereign – Whittakers Bullion
The 2025 Gold Quarter Sovereign from The Royal Mint features Martin Jennings’ official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III on the obverse, paired with Benedetto Pistrucci’s timeless George and the Dragon design on the reverse — a pairing that has become one of the most recognisable in British coinage.
As with all sovereigns, the 2025 Quarter Sovereign is struck in 22-carat gold, with the alloy composed of gold, silver, and copper. Earlier sovereigns carried a higher silver content, giving them a subtly lighter tone. Since 2000, however, The Royal Mint has used a copper-rich alloy, resulting in the modern sovereign’s distinctive rose-gold hue. The 2025 issue marks the final year this classic coin will be produced in its unique rose finish — a fitting end to a long-standing era.
Each Quarter Sovereign weighs 1.997 grams, containing 1.83 grams of pure gold. As legal tender UK coins, they are VAT-free and exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT), making them an attractive option for both investors and those seeking a meaningful, traditional gift.
